John: The Bond Franchise has a rich history of finding unique ways to kill its Bond Girls. In the new film, Quantum of Solace, Gemma Arterton meets an end Exxon would be proud of. Gemma’s character, Agent Fields, is drowned in crude oil and her body is rested on a bed in a scene that pays homage to the 1964 Bond classic, Goldfinger. The photos above and below were leaked yesterday to both The Chive and Derober from The Daily Mail (thanks Brendon).

Arterton plays a young MI6 agent ordered to keep an eye on Bond. As the story goes, she has sex with Bond and ends up dead. Arterton said of the sticky scene,

I couldn’t move. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t breathe or hear because it went in my ears. It was unpleasant, but it’s something I’ll always remember and it will be an iconic part of the film.

Gemma also had some flattering words regarding Daniel Craig’s bedroom behavior,

Kissing Daniel was great – I can’t pretend it wasn’t. It was my first day on set and I’d only met him once before – and then suddenly we were expected to kiss. But I just couldn’t get that image of him walking out of the sea in Casino Royale out of my head. He was very cool and I was a giggling mess. I mumbled something like, “I just kissed you!” and he just coolly said, “Yes, you did. And now we have to do it again.” Fortunately, he’s an incredible kisser.

Gemma’s character, Agent Fields, represents a departure from the standard, elusive over-wrought bond girl. Fields is genuinely witty, funny, and kind. We look forward to the performance.
